Record Allocation for School Education in 2024-25 Interim Budget: Over Rs 73,000 Crore Granted

Interim Budget 2024-25 Marks Unprecedented Funding for School Education

New Delhi:The Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL) within the Education Ministry secures a budget of Rs 73,498 crore for the fiscal year 2024-25, as announced in the Interim Budget by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday, states a Ministry official.

The Ministry of Education emphasizes that this budget represents the highest-ever allocation for DoSEL, reflecting an overall increase of Rs 12,024 crore (19.56%) from the Revised Estimates of 2023-24.

Significant increments are observed in the budgets for Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) and Navodaya Vidyalaya Sangathan (NVS) at Rs 9,302 crore and Rs 5,800 crore, respectively, with KVS witnessing a rise of Rs 802 crore and NVS receiving an additional Rs 330 crore compared to the Revised Estimates of 2023-24.

Key flagship schemes, including Samagra Shiksha (up by Rs 4,500 cr), PM-POSHAN (up by Rs 2,467 crore), and PM Schools for Rising India (PM-SHRI) (up by Rs 3,250 crore), see increased budget allocations compared to the Revised Estimates of 2023-24.

Finance Minister Sitharaman highlights the accomplishments of the Skill India Mission, reporting that 1.4 crore youth have been trained, 54 lakh youth upskilled or reskilled, and 3,000 new ITIs established. The newly launched PM Vishwakarma Yojana offers comprehensive support to artisans and craftsmen in 18 trades.

Furthermore, Sitharaman notes the establishment of numerous higher learning institutions, including 7 IITs, 16 IIITs, 7 IIMs, 15 AIIMS, and 390 universities across the country. (Source: IANS)
