Revolution on the Roads: Jammu and Kashmir Unleashes Smart Driving Licences After 18-Month Wait!
After an 18-month anticipation period, aspiring drivers in Jammu and Kashmir are finally receiving their hi-tech smart card driving licences, thanks to the recent initiation of centralized printing and dispatch by the transport department. Transport Commissioner Rajinder Singh Tara confirmed the commencement of this process, highlighting the collaboration with the Ministry of Road Transport, Government of India, aiming to clear the backlog of approximately 2 lakh pending driving licences within the next two months.
Notably, the motor vehicle department has introduced a significant upgrade in the new cards, opting for QR code-enabled smart cards, departing from the traditional laminated ones as per the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989.
Additionally, efficient delivery is assured through collaboration with the postal department, promising speed post delivery within 24 to 72 hours based on the distance. Applicants will receive a tracking ID via SMS, facilitating easy monitoring of their driving licence delivery.
